Hopton Hall Gallery celebrates local and regional talent, from established painters and sculptors to emerging makers redefining what it means to create in the modern Derbyshire and Peak District area. Every exhibition is curated with a simple aim: to show work that feels alive, rooted, and beautifully made.
Hopton Hall Gallery is more than an exhibition space. The gallery is designed as a creative hub for Ashbourne, hosting regular workshops, artist talks, and events. Expect everything from painting, life-drawing and printmaking classes , Christmas decoration making, talks on art history and the business of art . We’ll also partner with local schools and community groups to nurture creativity at every age and level of experience.
Opened in April 2026, The Hopton Hall Gallery is where heritage and contemporary creativity meet in the heart of Derbyshire. Founded by Chris and Andi Harvey, the gallery is part of the Hopton Hall Estate known for its gardens, historic restoration, and growing art collection. The Month of Art Competition with its 1000 pound prize, in the grounds of the Hall, is a well attended event in July. With the gallery in Ashbourne, Chris and Andi are building something that connects centuries of craftsmanship with the artists shaping today’s cultural landscape.
The gallery building, like the gallery mission, reflects respect for history and belief in renewal. Thoughtfully restored and adapted for public use, it combines period character with modern light and openness, a space where art feels both intimate and accessible.
At its heart, The Hopton Hall Gallery is about connection between artist and viewer, between past and present, between Derbyshire’s heritage and its future. Art, after all, doesn’t belong behind velvet ropes, it belongs to the people who see it, think about it, and carry it home in their minds.
Whether you are an art collector, a curious visitor, or someone who has never stepped inside a gallery before, you are welcome.
