SOUTH DERBYSHIRE IN STITCHES

ROLL UP, roll up for South Derbyshire in Stitches – At the start of a New Year many of us decide that it is time to try something new, learn new skills, brush up some old ones and meet other people. We have been talking to Sharon Brown from Creative Melbourne about “South Derbyshire in Stitches” an exciting new project this Spring to encourage local people to come together to help make a patchwork quilts, showcasing the BEST of Melbourne, Swadlincote and South Derbyshire – the architecture, industries, produce, ducks and landscape which make the area so special. Everyone is welcome to get involved with the project, either as part of a group meeting at Creative Melbourne every Monday afternoon during February & March from 1pm, or by collecting a pack from the Gallery or Melbourne Community Care and stitching at home. Creative Melbourne will announce a venue in Swadlincote shortly.

If you would like to find out more drop in to Creative Melbourne on Wednesday 11th February either from 11am or 1pm in the afternoon for a drink and a chat about our ideas or email info@melbournefestival.co.uk or leave a phone message 07765 819428 and leave your name & number for a call back!

A Grant from Derbyshire County Council partly funds the project as part of “Derbyshire Makes” which will cover materials. The project will be led by Fine Art embroiderer Michelle Holmes, who is based a Creative Melbourne Gallery supported by members of Church Street Sewers & Stitchers and Lynne Kelly Interiors.

No experience necessary, just an interest in being part of an exciting project to celebrate Melbourne Festival Coming of Age in 2026. What could better to bring people together this winter than stitching with friends over a cup of tea?
