Creatives in Place – all systems GO!

It’s all systems go for our Creatives in Place project – our artists Nick Davis (based in Wirksworth) and Bethany Sheldon (based in Erewash) are settling in to their host GP practices and getting to know the practice teams, as well as spending lots of time out and about in their local communities.

In next month’s Arts Derbyshire Newsletter, Nick and Beth will share an update from their first month in post. They’re both keeping reflective journals throughout this project and will use them to produce blog posts to keep you up to date and share learning as we go!

A recap on Creatives in Place:  (with updated wording, as we are always trying to improve how best to communicate this project and its aims!)

Creatives in Place (CiP) is a new project that brings creative thinkers into the communities around GP practices. Their goal is to use creativity and imagination to help improve health and wellbeing, especially for people facing extra challenges.

Arts Derbyshire is working with two forward-thinking GP practices: Hannage Brook Medical Centre in Wirksworth and Littlewick Medical Centre in Erewash.

The Creatives in Place are there to meet, talk, listen and connect with local people, and find new ways to support wellbeing, working with local people, GPs, nurses and social prescribers to understand what matters most to the community. They will help to find creative ways to support health and wellbeing that go beyond traditional medical care.

They connect people, uncover local strengths, and create meaningful projects that make a real difference. This also helps reduce pressure on busy GP teams.

This is about adding creative ideas to health care, not replacing doctors or nurses. It gives communities more say in their own health and seeks to keep people happy and healthy.
