Richard Haslam Afternoon Tea Concert

Event details

Join us for an engaging afternoon recital of classical and Spanish guitar music!

The programme begins with the music of Japanese composer Takashi Yoshimatsu whose beautifully distinct compositions reflect the dramatic contrast of the natural world. This will be followed by a pair of pieces from the modern British guitarist, Gary Ryan, whose work ‘Benga Beat’ is an exhilarating homage to the musical traditions and culture of West Africa.

Finally, we will conclude with Joaquín Rodrigo’s ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ (with piano accompaniment) in 3 movements. This classic concerto for guitar finds it’s inspiration in the evocative gardens of The Royal Palace of Aranjuez, Spain. The 2nd. slow movement, ‘Adagio’, contains perhaps the most famous melody in the classical guitar repertoire, whilst it’s outer movements buzz within traditional Spanish dances forms such as the Fandango and lyrical melodies nestled in Baroque counterpoint.

Tickets £10 Tea & Cake Included! Served after the performance.
Available from Spring Bank Arts Mon to Fri 9:30-12:30 on 01663 308202, on the door and online.
