April Sunday Coffee Concert – With members of the Hallé

Event details

On April 21st we welcome back Hallé harpist Marie Leenhardt and five Hallé string players to perform an exotic programme of French music for harp and strings. Debussy’s Danse Sacrée et Profane are a set of two contrasting dances – one looking back to more ancient sacred music, and the other a lighter, almost Satie-like waltz. André Caplet, a great friend and colleague of Debussy wrote his Conte Fantastique in 1908, a few years after Debussy’s Danses. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘Masque of the Red Death’ this evocative music is colourful and eerie, spooky and haunted! In keeping with this theme the programme also includes Saint-Saëns’ famous Danse Macabre.

Performed by :
Marie Leenhardt – harp
Marie Schreer and Yu-Mien Sun – violins
Chris Emerson – viola
Lucy Arch – cello
Rachel Meerloo -double bass

Fresh Coffee & delicious cakes served at 11am – included in the ticket price!
