In gathering this information we’d like to thank the Older Peoples' Arts Forum and Roma Gee for allowing us use the ‘Arts Toolkit for Activity Co-ordinators and Care Staff’. The toolkit (available to download at the bottom of this page) features information on funding, how to find experienced artists in Derbyshire, recruiting and contracting artists, publicity, evaluating arts projects, and other useful contacts and links.

Running Your Group offers practical information on anything to do with running a voluntary group – funding, child protection, getting members, marketing, and more… You can sign up for a free account which gives you access to a wealth of resources.

Recruiting and contracting artists

Read artsderbyshire’s advice on employing and working with artists.

To recruit an artist:

Search artsderbyshire’s extensive artist database, or place an advert on the website by emailing – this service is free.

Contact other arts organisations and societies by searching the Derbyshire Directory, which lists 3,100 local groups and not-for-profit services.

Place an advert using the Arts Council England’s ‘artsjobs’ email list. This service is free.

Your local Arts Development Officer may have local contacts or a database of artists.

Finding funding:

Read up on artsderbyshire’s advice on how to find and apply for funding.

Awards for All is a lottery grants scheme, funding projects from £300-£10,000 for projects that improve communities, and the lives of people within them.

Your local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) offers support and advice to community and voluntary groups in their area. They will also have a list of trusts and foundations which you could apply to for funding.

Derbyshire Community Foundation distributes grants to voluntary groups, to enrich the lives of Derbyshire residents.

Your local Town or Parish Council may have a funding scheme.

Apply to Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts scheme, for grants of £1000-£100,000. Arts Council England is a national development agency for the arts in England, distributing public money.

You can use Funding Central to search for funding appropriate for your project.

Advice on how to apply to one of the many charitable trusts or community foundations can be found on the NCVO website.
