Pop-up Library in Chesterfield

Derbyshire Libraries are hosting a week-long series of events and information stalls in the Pavements Shopping Centre in Chesterfield, starting 25 July.

With support of the centre management there are a variety of fun and free events and information sessions for local residents to enjoy from children’s rhyme times, stories and Roald Dahl inspired crafts to local author community bookstalls and displays from Picture of the Past and the Derbyshire Record Office, there is something interesting and fun to discover for all ages.

  • Monday 25th July 2016: 10-10.30am and 11-11.30am - enjoy creating music and singing rhymes and songs at our 2 rhyme time sessions
  • Monday 25th July 2016: 2-3.30pm - get creative with some fun preschool crafts and related stories
  • Tuesday 26th July 2016 10-11.30am - meet our family book doctors to discover what to read next and take your book prescription to the library to check it out!
  • Tuesday 26th July 2016 2-3.30pm -crack the code, pin the tail on the fox, do the Crocodile Hop or dibble with Dobble at our family fun gaming session 
  • Wednesday 27thJuly 2016 10am-4pm - Looking for something to read over the summer? Why not come along to our Pop-up Book Fair and browse a selection of books written by Derbyshire writers. The authors will be selling their books and chatting about their work.  There will also be a library stall with information about activities and opportunities for readers and writers.
  • Thursday 28th July 2016 10-11.30am – Roald Dahl phizz-whizzing stories and wondercrump crafts.
  • Thursday 28th July 2016 2-3.30pm – create shapes and sculptures and bring them to life with lights and sounds in our electro dough technology session.
  • Friday 29th July 10am-4pm – a variety of information stalls including:
    • Derbyshire Record Office – get your hands on original materials and discover the history of shopping in Chesterfield
    • Library and Information Stall – discover what your library has to offer, such as help with work and money, access to online databases and our eLending service, all free for Derbyshire Library customers
    • Reminiscence stall – find out about what library resources are available to bring the past to life and browse through historical photographs with Picture of the Past.

A special children’s book trail will be running all week, using the map, hunt down the books and characters in the surrounding shops and enter your completed trail into our special prize draw.
