Adaire to Dance is one of the most active and passionate artistic organizations working in Derbyshire today. They are embedded in the local community of Matlock and Derbyshire more widely, providing many opportunities for young people to engage with dance and the arts.
As a dance theatre company Adaire to Dance creates and performs work that aims to impress, captivate and entertain everyone from a dance enthusiast to a dance professional.
The company works predominantly in a contemporary dance style, performing choreography by artistic director Alice Vale. Her work spans from humour, film and pure movement, giving a diverse insight into the
world of contemporary dance.
The central aims of Adaire to Dance include:
Bringing professional standard dance to rural areas and first time audiences.
Supporting the wealth of artistic talent in the Midlands.
Showcasing the diversity in contemporary dance.
Supplying workshops to help support education and out reach work.
The dance company are using a range of pieces within their current performance repertoire.
3Fold is a triple-bill performance demonstrating the diversity of contemporary dance, incorporating humour, film and pure movement.
Alice Vale’s Deuce, from which the illustration above is taken, starts the show off with a light-hearted look at the game of tennis. The Journey of Discovery is a collaborative piece made with film artists Illuminos that follows and whisks the audience through the excitement and distress of being in a new place and situation. Spare a Minuteconcludes the show by presenting an insight into the ever-changing speed of relationships.

Adaire to Dance are also developing new pieces that will be debuted through the coming season.
Save Matlock Bath Pavilion Film is a silent movie dance film for the Save Matlock Bath Pavilion campaign. Filmed on-site this piece will explore the theatre as it is now and how it will become. A dance duet to this piece will be shown during Derbyshire Open Arts 2012.
GuyAthlon is an Olympic inspired piece created on three local young male dancers. It is anticipated that this will be performed as part of the Olympic Torch Relay in Derbyshire on June 29 2012.
Coffee Shop Culture is a piece that takes a wry look at the 'coffee shop culture' of modern UK society, and the characteristics in and around this world. This work is currently under development and will be premiered in 2013.
