Every September the historic market town of Wirksworth throws open its doors and warmly invites you to see great art in a truly wonderful place. Inspirational work from both international and local artists fill the streets, houses and historic buildings of this fascinating town. Wirksworth Festival has become one of the most exciting showcases for the visual arts that you'll find in rural England - the entire town becomes a gallery, with over one hundred and seventy artists exhibiting in more than sixty venues. Alongside the famous Art and Architecture Trail, the Festival's Contemporary Visual Arts programme this year comprises four major new commissions, six smaller commissions and a series of films will be installed in unusual sites around the town. Wirksworth Festival also has a strong performance programme featuring a heady selection of music, dance, drama, community celebration, family events, film, street theatre and Fringe events - from world class performers such as Public Service Broadcasting, Theatre Témoin, Puppet State Theatre, Babbling Vagabonds and an Australian Double Bill unique to the Festival - to the very best home grown talent. Don't miss one of the country's leading rural arts festivals.
