Dance development

The Derbyshire Dance Group was set up to bring together stakeholders involved with dance throughout the county and city. It works to improve information sharing, event planning and helps identify areas for joint working.

An audit of dance activity and consultation day identified many voluntary and amateur dance groups across the county and city, as well as private dance schools and provision in schools and through adult and community education.

Derbyshire Dance Artists’ Network is an Arts Derbyshire initiative, supported by Arts Council England, East Midlands. It provides professional training, networking and business support for dance artists in Derbyshire, and is staffed by a co-ordinator (one day a week)

Déda is a regularly-funded organisation of Derby City Council and Arts Council England, East Midlands. Déda is central to the dance provision of the city. The facility offers: 134 seat studio theatre, two dance studios, meeting room, office space, café/bar (The Cube). The main business areas of the organisation are: Performance, dance development, classes and workshops, performance programme and commercial activity.

The Derbyshire Dance Group has produced a three year dance development plan which you can download from the related documents section below, and which outlines how we will work together to support and develop dance in the county, and to achieve our shared vision:

"To enable more people to take part in all types of dance, as audiences, participants and practitioners".
