Many of the group's members are preparing to tackle 5 of Dickens works and to get involved in a variety of Dickens-related literature events happening in the county this year.
Charles Dickens was born on February 7th, 1812 and a wide variety of events are taking place throughout the year in celebration of the bi-centenary. Reading Groups for Everyone, a project of The Reading Agency, has set up the Dickens Champions scheme.
Hilary, a member of Belper Book Chat said: 'some of the book chat members who have signed up to the Champions project have not read any Dickens before, others have read most or even all of his works. We are starting with a celebratory cake for Dickens birthday then we will be blogging about our reading and activities on the Reading Groups website as well as our own'
One member of the group has even sketched Charles Dickens and written a birthday poem - see it here: http://belperbookchat.wordpress.com/what-the-dickens/happy-birthday-poem-to-charles-dickens/
