Creating jobs in not-for-profit organisations
CREATING JOBS IN NOT-FOR-PROFIT CREATIVE, CULTURAL, HERITAGE, DIGITAL MEDIA ORGANISATIONS
The £1 billion Future Jobs fund is to support the creation of jobs for young people approaching
ten months of unemployment.
It is also for workless people aged 25 and over, who reside in unemployment “Hotspots” (an
area with a level of unemployment that is more than 1.5% above the national average).
Gecko Programmes Limited, as part of the Third Sector Consortium, is a Future Jobs programme
supplier and is contracted to find 339 jobs in not-for-profit organisations in the Midlands.
These jobs must be additional (not replacing an employee or contractor), and be of community
benefit. They are focused upon the creative and cultural industries.
Two-thirds of these jobs must be found for young people in the 18-24 age group who have been
unemployed for between 26 and 50 weeks. One-third of the jobs will be in unemployment “
Hotspots”, where people aged over 25 will be eligible.
The grant funding provides the cost of wages (minimum wage for 25 hours per week), plus NI
for 6 months for each job created.
Gecko will act as the intermediary between the potential employer and JobCentre Plus.
They can assist in recruitment and, where employment procedures and payroll are not available, can
provide the facility to pay the employee through Gecko Arts and Media (please see
www.geckoprogrammes.co.uk)
Gecko is working with heritage venues, arts venues, arts groups, community arts projects,
community radio stations and organisations which benefit the community.
