Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary
Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary
Shape is calling for applications from disabled and deaf artists for the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary. In 2009, this £5,000 artistic residency will be offered in conjunction with the Bluecoat in Liverpool, with advice and consultancy from Tate Liverpool.
The bursary offers a disabled or deaf visual artist the opportunity to develop their ideas without the pressure to deliver a defined outcome. The artist will benefit from a close working relationship with the Bluecoat team, use of the fully equipped and accessible facilities and direct feedback on their practice through open studios and talks.
This is the second year of the residency, which was established in the memory of Adam Reynolds, artist, curator, and artists’ advocate. Adam was active in the disability arts sector but always maintained a broad perspective on the arts. The residency was initially developed in conjunction with the Camden Arts Centre in North London, where Adam himself had a residency. Noëmi Lakmaier was the first recipient of the award in 2008, producing the sculptural piece ‘Experiment in Happiness’, a giant ball of yellow shoes, attached to the artist.
The Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary is part of Shape’s strategic aims to promote excellence in the work of disabled and deaf artists. Artists are welcome to contact Shape for informal discussions about the bursary. See the website for full details of how to apply at www.adamreynoldsbursary.org.uk.
Deadline 1st September, 2008
