New Mills Original Gallery

New Mills Original is a new venture to help local artists and craftspeople establish themselves and bring original work to a wider audience at more affordable prices.

As a Community Interest Company, New Mills Original is set up differently to commercial galleries, and is run and staffed by volunteers. Any surplus we make is re-invested. “We are able to charge our contributors much lower commission and fees” says Angela Fuggle, one of the Directors, “so they get a fair reward for their work but products and workshops are priced within reach of most of us”. 

 Fellow director Marie Brown, an artist herself, says “The area is full of brilliant designers and makers.  With so many involved, we have a great range of items for sale and workshops to get involved in: from drawing, painting, prints and photography to … ceramics, jewellery, textiles and fashion.  If you’re more interested in the unique and inspiring than the mass-produced then we should have something you’ll like.  And it’s free to look at our changing exhibitions.”

Anyone in the High Peak interested in following or developing a career in the creative industries is being encouraged to get in touch.  “By offering a permanent outlet for their work, we’re trying to add to the support available locally for people starting off and trying to move up the creative ladder” says Angela, “And not just in the more obvious fields. New Mills Original already has members who are poets and writers, and we’re keen to hear from any local musicians recording original material.  If it’s creative, we’re interested in it.”
