Deaf Arts Officer at Derby City Council

The Arts and Event Team and Hands up project obtained funding for a two year Deaf Arts Officer post. The Deaf Arts Officer is continuing the legacy of Hands up Project, developed by a Deaf Audience Development worker from 2001 till 2003.  The aim of the Hands Up project was to develop new audiences for the arts in Derby and Derbyshire. It also developed better access to performance arts for Deaf (British Sign Language users) and Hearing Impaired people.

In September 2006, Niki Johnson started full time in the Deaf Arts Officer post. She is based at Celtic House within the Arts and Events team at Derby City Council. Her key responsibility is to continue working with former Hands up partners, as well as advising other arts organisations about deaf and disability awareness, and access at venues. Her aim is to make an impact on arts provision for all communities for years to come.

Please contact Niki to put yourself on her mailing list. Also if you have any events, queries, job vacancies, news or anything you would like to share with Derby and Derbyshire's deaf community, please contact Niki, who will forward it to her contacts. .
